Bat stat

While running a Citrix / XenApp or Terminal Server Published Desktop on a Windows laptop, the user is unable to check the laptop's battery status. This may lead to a serious inconvenience when the battery runs out: the laptop will shut down and the user's session will be terminated / disconnected. We have encountered this inconvenience on some of our projects, and developed a way to solve it. Our solution involves two elements: RES and BatStat.

The RES technology provides a way for Workspace Extender (formerly Powerfuse subscriber) to seamlessly reverse an application. This means that a local application can be shown inside the Published Desktop session.

The second element is BatStat. Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 do not offer a standalone application to monitor battery status. BatStat does just that. RES cannot show the Windows battery icon in the notification area of the taskbar, but it can show the BatStat application!

Without RES, the user must switch between applications (using Alt-Tab) to be able to see the battery's status. The combination of the BatStat application with the RES technology not only simplifies the user’s work, it will also help reduce calls to your helpdesk!

Ridtools

The RID master is responsible for processing RID pool requests from all domain controllers in a particular domain. When a DC creates a security principal object such as a user or group, it attaches a unique Security ID (SID) to the object. This SID consists of a domain SID (the same for all SIDs created in a domain), and a relative ID (RID) that is unique for each security principal SID created in a domain. Each DC in a domain is allocated a pool of RIDs that it is allowed to assign to the security principals it creates.

The download consists of two Powershell scripts, rIDump and rIDAlloc.
- rIDump dumps the Global and per DC RID data for the whole domain
- rIDAlloc forces a Domain Controller to request a new RID pool from the RID Master

SCOM:HP Enterprise

Monitoring events from a HP Enterprise Virtual Array, or EVA, with Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) is supplied by HP with a Management Pack. This management pack unfortunately does not enable collecting capacity data and thus gathering capacity trends. Denamik created a stand-alone management pack that queries the available and used space of storage systems and disk groups ands it in the data warehouse.

SCOM: Exchange

Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) enables you to monitor you Microsoft Exchange 2003 environment. A management pack is supplied by Microsoft. Unfortunately the management pack does not collect the size of mailbox stores. Denamik created an add-on management pack that queries the size of mailbox stores and stores in the datawarehouse.

Service Wrapper

Some applications, especially client-server applications, have the need to be active all the time. This can cause problems for applications which are released without the ability to be a service. Denamik brings you the Service Wrapper, which can launch and control different predefined applications.

SearchReplace

While rolling out many different servers and applications unattended, we used to use acsr.exe to alter text in different files. Acsr.exe works, but a big downside of acsr.exe is the lack of command line help switches, and status messages after running acsr.exe; error or success. Especially the lack of status messages can be time consuming! Time is something we as professionals don’t have!

Denamik brings you a command line tool, which can help you replace strings of any kind, in any file. Though this will not be the most advanced tool DeNamiK will release, it sure will be handy!

SftImport

This utility can be used to import OSD (Softgrid Application) files into a Microsoft App-V (Softgrid) database (previously this was a manual process that required several steps and was easy to screw up). In fact, sftImport can even import multiple OSD's at once (i.e. an entire folder) or via a CSV file. This tool is great whether you manually configure your environments or whether you write configuration scripts.

With release 2.3 we also bring you Microsoft App-V 4.5 support.

Ping-it

In most organizations support users (i.e. helpdesk, servicedesk, webdesigners, etc.) have restricted account-access rights on local workstations or servers (when using Server Based Computing). In many cases users are only allowed to use a specified set of services and executables to minimize the security risks and maximize work time. Depending the organization structure, these restrictions most often apply to tools like ‘command.com’, ‘cmd.exe’ and ‘ping.exe’. To be able to provide this group of users the ability to ping servers, printers and other network connected devices, without having to publish ‘command.com’, ‘cmd.exe’, ‘ping.exe’ etc, we have created the Denamik “Ping-it’ tool.
